Introduction

CompTIA Network+ validates the knowledge and skills of networking professionals. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification that recognizes a technician's ability to describe the features and functions of networking components and to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols and services.

Important Changes

CompTIA is transitioning from a lifetime certification policy to one that requires continuing education or recertification.

IT personnel who earn CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or CompTIA Security+ certification on or after January 1, 2011, will require continuing education credits to maintain their certifications.

CompTIA is making this change to maintain ISO 17024 accreditation for those three certifications. ISO accreditation is extremely important because of its global credibility.

Audience

The audience for includes networking professionals who wish to consolidate and possibly benchmark their core skills. The CompTIA Network+ is a valuable credential to help launch or enhance a networking career. Many IT certifications integrate CompTIA Network+, for example, Microsoft added CompTIA Network+ into their Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) program and other corporations such as Novell, Cisco and HP also recognize CompTIA Network+ as part of their certification tracks.

It is recommended that CompTIA Network+ candidates have at least nine months of experience in network support or administration or adequate academic training, along with a CompTIA A+ certification.
